Orthopedic Surgery Hip Replacement: Total Hip replacement (THR) is the latest and definitive treatment for the conditions like osteoarthritis of hip, fracture of neck of femur and other conditions affecting the hip joint. Recommended usually for patients of age group over 55-60 years, (sometimes in younger age groups) the THR has a life span of 10-15 years after which it needs to be revised. The THR has proved to be an effective method of preventing and curing the hip conditions. Knee Replacement: Most commonly affected major joint of the body due to aging or degenerative process is the knee joint. The treatment of choice in severely affected knee joint in which both the articular surfaces of the femur and the tibial surfaces are severely destroyed (due to osteoarthritis or other types of arthritis), is the Total Knee Replacement (TKR) .In the two affected femoral and tibial components of knee joint are surgically removed and replaced by metallic congruent joint, made up of metals compatible with human body. Widely accepted over the world. A precisely and accurately replaced knee joint can work well beyond 10-15 years. Arthoscopy & other Orthapaedic Procedures: This is a method of pinhole surgery done through an operating arthroscope connected to video camera and TV monitor. Mostly used in traumatic conditions affecting the knee joint. This method avoids an ugly scar over the knee due to conventional surgery and also shortens hospital stay. Arthrosopy is used commonly for excision of torn meniscus, repair of cruciate and other ligaments and for clearing the knee joint of diseased synovium etc. Arthroscopy is recently used in other joints like shoulder, ankle, elbow etc. for treating similar conditions. |
